“There’s 106 miles to Chicago, we’ve got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark out, and we’re wearing sunglasses.” — Elwood
The Blues Brothers is a comedy film about two brothers on the run from the police. Their mission is to play a concert with their R&B band to raise enough money to save the orphanage where they grew up. The brothers wear dark suits and sunglasses; their outfits originated on Saturday Night Live, where the characters of Joliet and Elwood Blues were first created. The origin of the characters is part of what makes this film pretty amazing!
What Fans Have to Say
Admittedly, the concept and storyline of the film sound a little strange at first, and even fans can admit this. But, as Roger Ebert said in a review of The Blues Brothers:
“What’s a little startling about this movie is that all of this works.”
